Frequently asked questions

Ordering, shipping terms, importing and regulations, especially if this is your first time importing from Korea.

Ordering

How does ordering work?+
  1. Apply for a wholesale account. Once approved, you see your prices.
  2. Add products in full cartons and send an order request. A request is not binding.
  3. NXC sends a formal offer with a proforma invoice. If NXC ships for you, the freight is included.
  4. A 30% deposit confirms the order. We then order the goods from our Korean partners.
  5. Goods leave Korea about 3 weeks after the deposit. You pay the balance before release, and we ship with a commercial invoice and packing list.
Is there a minimum order?+

Yes: CAD 1,000 / USD 750 of goods per order. Products also ship in full cartons; the units per carton are shown on every product, and quantities round up to the next full carton. Some products also have an MOQ, which is shown on the product.

Which currency are prices in?+

Canadian accounts see and pay prices in CAD. Accounts in other countries see USD.

Do prices follow exchange rates?+

Yes. We buy from Korean suppliers in KRW and check the Bank of Canada's rates every day. When a rate has moved by more than 1%, catalogue prices are updated, so they stay close to today's cost without changing every day.

Can prices change after I get an offer?+

Offers are based on current supplier costs and exchange rates. Until you confirm with the deposit, NXC may revise an offer if supplier costs or exchange rates change by more than 3%. Once the order is confirmed, prices are fixed.

Can I order products that are out of stock?+

Yes. Products marked “Pre-order” are out of stock at our supplier. You can still request them, and the offer confirms the expected ship date, which is usually longer than our standard lead time.

How long until my order arrives?+

Goods leave Korea about 3 weeks after we receive the deposit, and the offer confirms the ship date. Express courier delivery usually takes several business days after that; sea freight takes several weeks.

Shipping & Incoterms

What do FOB, FCA and DAP mean?+

The Incoterm on your offer says who arranges and pays for the freight, and where responsibility passes to you.

TermWho books the freightFreight costYour responsibility startsDuties & taxes
FOB BusanYour freight forwarderYou pay from BusanGoods loaded at Busan portYou (importer)
FCA IncheonYou, on your own courier account (DHL, FedEx, UPS)Billed to your accountGoods handed to your courierYou (importer)
DAP (Canada)NXC books an express courierAdded to your offerDelivery at your addressYou, paid on delivery
Which shipping option should I choose?+
  • NXC arranges shipping (DAP): simplest for smaller orders to Canada. We quote the courier cost in the offer.
  • Your own courier account (FCA): best if you already have negotiated DHL, FedEx or UPS rates.
  • Your freight forwarder (FOB): best for larger, consolidated or sea shipments.
Why is NXC shipping (DAP) only available to Canada?+

NXC is a Canadian company and ships to Canada regularly, so we can quote and handle those shipments reliably. For other countries, please ship with your own courier account or freight forwarder, who know your local import process.

Importing, duties & taxes

Do I need to hire an importer?+

No. Your business is the importer of record: the company the goods are imported for. You don't need a separate importer.

In Canada, your business needs a Business Number with an import-export (RM) program account from the Canada Revenue Agency. It's free to register. When we ship by express courier, the courier clears the goods through customs for you as your broker; you give them your Business Number.

Who pays import duties and taxes?+

The importer, which is you. With express courier shipments, the courier usually collects the duties, taxes and its brokerage fee on delivery or bills you afterwards. NXC prices don't include destination duties or taxes.

How much is the import duty in Canada?+

Most cosmetics carry a standard duty of about 6.5% of the goods value. Under the Canada–Korea Free Trade Agreement (CKFTA), Korean-made goods are duty-free (0%) when the shipment comes with valid proof of Korean origin.

We provide a certificate of origin for eligible products and are working with our partners to cover as many as possible. Your offer says whether one is included.

What about GST/HST?+

GST, or HST in participating provinces, is charged on the value of the goods plus duty. If your business is GST/HST registered, you can usually claim it back as an input tax credit.

Do I need a customs broker?+

For express courier shipments, the courier acts as your broker, which is usually the simplest and most cost-effective option for smaller orders. For sea or consolidated freight through a forwarder, you or your forwarder will use a licensed customs broker.

I'm importing into the United States. What should I know?+

You are the importer and pay US duties and fees under US rules. Cosmetics must meet FDA requirements (see Regulations below). A licensed US customs broker, or your courier, can clear the goods for you.

Product regulations

What do I need to sell cosmetics in Canada?+
  • Cosmetic Notification Form (CNF): the manufacturer or importer notifies Health Canada within 10 days after first selling a cosmetic in Canada.
  • Bilingual labels: product labels need English and French.
  • We provide product details and full ingredient lists for your filings.
Why are SPF products different?+

Sunscreens are not regular cosmetics. In Canada they need a Natural Product Number (NPN) or a Drug Identification Number (DIN). In the US they are OTC drugs, which need an FDA drug listing and a Drug Facts label. The Korean versions we supply are usually not registered in either country, so registration is the importer's responsibility. If your request includes SPF products for Canada or the US, we ask you to confirm this at checkout.

What do I need to sell cosmetics in the US?+

Under MoCRA, the responsible person registers facilities and lists products with the FDA. Labels need English labelling and a US contact for adverse event reports.

Do products come with English labels?+

Most products ship in global packaging with English labelling, and some are Korean-market versions. Additional stickers, for example US contact details or French text, can be arranged at cost. Ask us before ordering.

Payment, claims & documents

How do I pay?+

By wire transfer or EFT, or Interac e-Transfer in Canada. A 30% deposit confirms the order, and the balance is due when the goods are ready, before release. Your offer and proforma invoice include our bank details.

What happens to my deposit if I cancel?+

Once you pay the deposit, we order the goods from our suppliers, so the deposit isn't refunded. It stays on your account as credit, and we use it towards your next order.

When is the balance due?+

Within 14 days of our “goods ready” email. If the balance isn't paid by then, NXC may cancel the order, and the deposit is kept as credit for a later order.

What if something is wrong with my delivery?+

Check expiry dates, defects and quantities when the goods arrive, and report any issue within 7 days with photos or videos. Reply to your order message or email us. If something was damaged in transit, claim it with the carrier or your forwarder.

Can you provide documents for Amazon or other platforms?+

Currently, we cannot accommodate requests for platform-specific supporting documentation (e.g. marketplace brand authorizations, letters of authorization or invoices for category approval) or specialized compliance information. We provide the standard trade documents listed below.

Which documents do I get?+
  • A formal offer and proforma invoice before you pay
  • A commercial invoice and packing list with every shipment
  • MSDS and full ingredient lists on request
  • A certificate of origin for eligible products

Your account

Why would my account become dormant?+

An account goes dormant if it has no deposit-paid order within 30 days of approval, or for 6 months after its last order. We email you 7 days before. A dormant account still sees past orders but not prices, and you can request reactivation at any time.

This page is general guidance, not legal, tax or customs advice. Rules change, so please check with the authorities or a licensed customs broker: CBSA (importing into Canada), Health Canada (cosmetics), FDA (cosmetics).
